Once upon a time, there lived a man who took sadistic pleasures in tormenting other people. His main joys could be found in causing untold agonies to take place in the lives of other people. How do I know about him? That is a very good question; one you will soon hear the answer to.
A couple of years ago I used to like taking nice long moonlight walks in the woods near my home. I thought it was a safe place because there was a well worn walking trail and it was used by those seeking the relaxation and comfort of the forest calm almost 24 hours each day. You must remember that I lived in a small community of less than 500 people, where everybody knew everyone else, and our biggest thrill was when a Subway restaurant opened in the larger town near by. I lived in the kind of rustic and scenic town that one would see in picture post cards, not one that would soon fall victim to the greatest horrors one can only imagine in nightmares.
Anyhow, I was walking in the woods that fateful night just thinking about how nice and serene my life was. I was quite literally thanking my god that I was born. My life at that moment could not get any sweeter...
I was walking and I heard the piercing cry of a woman. She was crying "help me, someone please." I only heard this for about one minute and then there was silence. I immediately went in the direction of the screen, but I saw nothing, it was like a figment of my imagination, a dream.
I went home and went to bed and paid no more mind to the events of that night. Supid me! I was so complacent in the innocence of the serenity of my perfect life that I did not take heed of the warning that fate had given me that night!
I woke up the next morning, and I heard on the radio, the town was in an uproar. In the local woods the mutilated and dismembered body of a woman had just been discovered early that morning. Apparently her head was severed from her body, and was found angling from a nearby tree. Her body was all tied up, and it appears she struggled for at least 20 minutes. This was all second hand information, of course I heard on the radio as I ate my cornflakes. Her identity was said to be that of a 26 year old college student who was reported missing a week before. The most gruesome discovery of all, however was the revelation that she was eight months pregnant, and beside her mangled corpse was the half eaten body of her fetus. It also appeared that her body was totally devoid of blood. Whever happened to her happene slowly and painfully, because there was evidence of a futile struggle.
Wnna know what the most ironic thing of all is? They calculated that the murder took place about 10 minutes after I heard the scream. Could I have been privy to the horrors and desperation of the final life moments of this poor soul? I shuddered at the thought and quickly blocked it from my mind. I lived in the perfect community where nothing ever happened. Our complacency was to be our greatest downfall.Those who are least prepared to deal with evil, are those who will suffer the most. Oh, how I wish I had known that before, it would have saved us all so much pain!
