The Scarecrow |
O.K.-this one was taken from an old black-and-white T.V. show that Boris Karloff hosted YEARS ago, called "Thriller".
(I am writing this from memory, I haven't seen this in, wow, 35 yrs?)
One episode was called "The Hallow Watcher", and I think I didn't sleep for a week after seeing it.
There was a rural farmhouse. There was a teenaged Son, the Mom, and an Abusive Step-Dad. The Step-Dad was always beating the Step-Son. One day, he killed him (I think he struck him in the head).
So, the Step-Dad took the body, and put it together as a Scarecrow, and placed it WAYyyyyy out in the fields.
The Mother panic'd looking for her Son. She was told he (the Son) "ran away". Then the Abusive Husband gets drunk, picks a fight with her over her "Lazy Son who ran-off", and kills her. (I think he choked her).
Now, the Scarecrow WAYyyyyyy off in the distance is pictured little tiny in a Window when the Step-Dad kills his Wife.
The way I remember it, the Step-Dad buries his Wife in the root cellar in the basement. Every shot we see of a window in the farmhouse, the Scarecrow is *this* much closer to the House.
So, we are treated to scenes of the Step-Dad in a real fix. He cannot get anyone to examine if his Scarecrow is moving, because obviously there is a body in it, right?
So, everyday, a little closer. The Step-Dad yells at it, tries to burn it, shoots it, and every day it is a little closer, and "healed", of whatever he has done to it.
One Morning *chills* he walks into the kitchen with a hangover, and the Scarecrow is in the window.
The last scene of the program. TWO scarecrows in the field, side-by-side. |

O.K.-I found the entire Thriller Series on DVD. I costs about $99.99 (darn). And Night Gallery was my addiction!! That show scared the "you-know-what" out of me! But every week, I had to watch it. And every time I watched it, I would climb into bed with my Sister. |

Oooo, creepy! I could SWEAR that I saw something like that when I was really little. I'm not old enough to have seen it anywhere near 35 years ago, though, so maybe I'm wrong. |
