| St.Phanourios Greek Orthodox Church, became well know when in March 1991, when an inexplicable, permanent halo appeared over the head of a saintly figure in an icon there. As word spread, people began to flock to see the small Greek church. Before long, over 1,500 people a week were visiting the church to witness the miracle. Many of the modern pilgrims claimed the glow from the halo cured them from disesases, such as cancer, restored sight, enable the lame to walk again, etc. The ancient icon pictures Saint Phanourios, as a martyr who performed miracles to free priests who were sold into slavery.
