1780 HOUSE and YES IT'S HAUNTED, STAMFORD, CONNECTICUT

This house was named for the year it was built. The ancient house was in the Weed family until 1927, when the Clayton Rich family purchased the property. In 1955, the house was purchased by Robert and Dorothy Cowan. Strange moving shadows have been seen in the parlor, and unaccountable music is heard in an upstairs bedroom. The translucent figure of an Indian has been encountered in the kitchen. A local historian revealed that the house was originally built by August Weed on the private hunting ground of an Indian naamed Chief Ponus. During an investigation by Hans Holzer in March of 1964, several spirits were contacted, including a Revolutionary War soldier by the name of Benjamin Harmon. Hauck, p.98.

Bunny Mom 11/6/2007 10:01:00 AM Yup it sure is haunted also Fort Stamford is haunted as well but I am not sure how much of it is in the books. There are many places in stamford that are haunted that like other places are not listed in books Did you know Stamford had witch trials? My ancestors signed a petition for one particular woman who was on trial but they did not beleive participated in witch craft. My brother works at the Stamford Historical Society so he tells me lots of this stuff! - Bunny
